otential Central and Northern Queensland goldmines with the possibility of earning millions are being discovered but for one such gold mining company it’s not about striking it rich but more about building a better business.
“Our vision is to be a world leading gold company but not with the vision that bigger is better,” Evolution Mining Cracow general manager Jason Floyd said.
“It’s really about trying to focus on delivering quality production and returns for our stakeholders.”
Evolution Mining recently reported a record half-yearly net profit of $147.2 million with their portfolio of assets delivering consistent operational performance. They continue to focus on the transformation of their business with several projects moving into operating phase including the high intensity grinding mill at Cracow and tele-remote drilling at Mt Rawdon.
“We have just spread our wings and acquired the Red Lake operation in Canada which will expand the company onto two continents. We are not looking to be the biggest, but we are certainly looking at being the best.”
Growing up in the small mining town of Kirkland Lake, Canada, Mr Floyd, a mining engineer by trade, said at an early age he had no interest in getting into mining and originally wanted to become a mechanical engineer and design airplanes.
“Once I got into University, I quickly realised I wasn’t going to be designing the plane but designing a very small part on the plane and that didn’t appeal,” he said.
“For me the real draw as a mining engineer is that you’re involved in the entire operation and in the 20 years I’ve been in the industry I’ve worked at underground and open cut mines and within technical roles which has given me a broad experience of the industry.”
On February 25, Mr Floyd will be in Gladstone presenting the company’s current projects including future operations, scope and timelines as well as potential procurement opportunities for the regions supply chain.
“I’ll be giving a rundown on our Cracow, Mt Rawdon and Mt Carlton operations in Queensland and informing people on how they can get involved or even help us via innovation or in ways they believe they could assist our business.”
Jason Floyd will be presenting alongside Australian Bauxite Ltd CEO Ian Levy (Binjour Mine) at Resource Industry Media’s Connecting Industry event on February 25 in Gladstone at the Yaralla Sports Club.
